5 Takeaways From #TGE2017

First things first. We hope you had good time. We try and bring many worlds together under one roof. Style, grooming, tech, sports, food, wine, spirits, beer, cocktails, chefs, footwear, custom clothing and more. Here are the 5 big takeaways from the 2017 edition of The Gentlemen’s Expo.

5) Shopping

This was Black Friday after all. Those beautiful jackets from Wully Outerwear. Those plaid sherpa shirts from Honorable Beasts. Those gorgeous winter boots from Altorosto. The message behind TenFed clothing (buy a piece, fed 10 kids). That incredible selection of Parc City Boots. Those game-changing socks from Voxx Life. The cool factor of Brave & Bearded. The variety and styles of socks from Hot Sox. Those form fitting boxer briefs from Topik Wear. Those shoe saving products from Urad. The custom selection from Surmesur. The garment saving offerings from Park Lane Cleaners. The class of King & Bay Custom Clothing. The Canadian-inspired pieces from Gentlemen Of The North. The botanicals from False Ox. The vast product line from Elegance Gel.  The grooming essentials from 6ixMan.

4) Wine

Let’s be real here for a minute. Wine & Cheese is a crowd pleaser. Raven for Ravenswood was a collaboration between Ravenswood Wines and Cheese Boutique. Side note: this is what we are hoping the menu in heaven looks like. Eugene, Ravenswood’s Master Of Wine, weaved a delicious story of wine into his Culinary Stage presentation. It was magic. Glasses raised for Eugene and the entire crew at Ravenswood. Happy people all around.

3) Tweed

Every day there’s a story on the interwebz about Cannabis. It’s a hot topic from an incredibly fast-growing industry. We wanted to share knowledge on this emerging and ever-changing sector with our audience, so we enlisted the best. That’s Tweed Inc. Tweed brought their experts: Shega, Jonathan, Daniel, Adam – and hosted two panels packed full of Cannabis content. Totally engaging stuff.

2) Culinary Stage

Honestly, how great was Lindsey Greflund as host of The Culinary Stage. She was awesome. Also awesome… was live demo after live demo from the stage. Ted Reader and his grilling skills, Mark Bylok and his whisky knowledge, Rachel Bies and her healthy food inspiration, Tonia Wilson and her flavour combinations, Michelle Tham and her beer expertise, and Jason Nolan and his culinary creativeness. It was epic. The samples were epic. What an absolute treat.

1) Boxing

When we were talking about about adding a live boxing element to #TGE2017, we had no idea how incredible it was going to be. The headlining event of of #TGE2017 Day 1 was Friday Night Fights To End Cancer presented by Tweed. Proper pugilists aiming for Olympic spots were hungry and ready to put on a show. And boy did they. 5 exciting fights held the audience captive for the better part of Friday Night, and some money was raised for Fight To End Cancer. Special shout out to Jennifer, Virgil and the FTEC crew, along with Showdown Joe Ferraro for lending his talents. Could not have been possible with the support of Tweed and last but not least, the referees, judges and fighters. We will definitely do this again!

Let There Be Wine!

The Gentlemen’s Expo is proud to announce a series of special guests & experiences to help educate and entertain audiences. The Gentlemen’s Expo is Nov 24-25 at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre, North Building. Please welcome Eugene Mlynczyk of Ravenswood Wines. There will be samples of wine and cheese for the first 50 people seated at the Culinary Stage at 6:30pm.

  • WHO: Eugene Mlynczyk of Ravenswood Wines
  • WHAT: Ravenswood Wine & Cheese Demo
  • WHEN: FRIDAY, NOV. 24th
    • 6:30pm-7:30pm – Ravin’ for Ravenswood

Ravin For Ravenswood

It’s all about big, bold Zinfandel wines in this detailed Wine 101 session with Ravenswood. Ravenswood helped relaunch Zinfandel in California – the big, red stuff, not the wimpy “white” version! Hear (and taste) all about it with Eugene Mlynczyk, Master of Wine, one of only five in Canada. Eugene will tell the story of Zin through four hand-selected Ravenswood wines including one of their top-gun single vineyard bottlings, matched with several cheeses courtesy of our friends at the Cheese Boutique.

Eugene Mlynczyk’s love of wine began in California while studying at Stanford University in the 1980s, where he earned his BA in Painting and Drawing (and later his MFA in Painting at Indiana University). Eugene’s interest in wine grew after his return home to Toronto, Canada, with a focus on the local Niagara region. Eugene started studying wine in earnest in the late 1990s and launched a new career in the wine trade in 2001 as he also completed his WSET Diploma.

His current role is Luxury Portfolio Manager atConstellation Brands, where he is responsible for selling a global range of wines to Vintages, the specialty division of the LCBO, and actively supporting Luxury Wine sales across the country. With the support of many, Eugene became a Master of Wine in 2015, one of only five in Canada. His Research Paper topic was on local VQA Sparkling Wines. When not tasting and talking about wine, Eugene focuses on family activities, and can often be found running in the woods competing in his favourite sport, orienteering.
